Remembrances
by Dave Lemoine

MY UNIQUE RECOLLECTION of Senator Muskie was the length of his index finger, which he used with great effect to direct me through Washington traffic on those few occasions that I drove him to an event. I swear his finger was the size of a small baseball bat, and never left any doubt about which lane or turn should be used. He was also very tolerant of a young Maine driver who had little experience with city traffic.

Please also remind Mr. Nicoll of the Senator's required apple pie and chocolate milk for lunch. These are not the facts of great legislation, but they might provide some humorous minutia for the project.

Finally, I have managed to get elected to the Maine House of Representatives from Old Orchard Beach. Wrestling with public policies now has given me an even greater appreciation for how effective the Senator was in his lifetime.
